Minneapolis Family & Newborn Photographer : Motherhood Mini-Session Event by Erica Loeks

EricaLoeksPhotography_MinneapolisFamilyPhotographer_001.jpg

I’m busting at the seams to announce an in-studio event I’ve been working on for a super long time! In conjunction to Mother’s Day, I wanted to create an event that not only photographed Mama and her littles, but that also pampered Mama and would make her feel special! After becoming a Mama to my Everett, I feel like far too often I miss out on photos with my sweet little buddy. I’m almost always the one behind the camera and beyond that, I miss out on anything formal for he and I. I started planning for a Motherhood Event that would not only pamper Mama, but take the stress out of having her photograph taken. It would be so much more than a maternity or family session, it would be just for Mamas and littles. I’ve thought of it all, everything that stressed and made me sweat for my photos with Everett, I’ve tried to eliminate all that and provide a pampering one-stop-magical stop for you in one lovely event!

This will be billed for $75 to the artists and can be added on to your session when booking. Hair and Makeup sessions will take roughly 20 minutes and be done immediately prior to your photo session. This eliminates having to make multiple stops the day of. See, just how I like it, STRESS-FREE! :)

You will be able to borrow pieces and use in your photo session, which is unique to any other Mini-Session. This really is all about pampering you Mama! I love the simple yet elegant designs Tess and Tricia offer in their jewelry! Options will be emailed prior to the event for style planning.

Happy New Year!! | Minneapolis Family Photographer | Minneapolis Newborn & Maternity Photographer | by Erica Loeks

HAPPY NEW YEAR FRIENDS!

The day started off a balmy -3 degrees and as I rolled out of bed, my heart sunk when I realized the thermostat wasn’t working. This is literally every Minnesotan’s worst fear, their furnace goes out in the dead of winter. Lucky us, it just couldn’t keep up with the cold temps and that oh so smart husband of mine got it cracking in no time.

I thought I’d take a second and write out a few hopes and questions for you. I welcome you all to email me and give me your thoughts, as 2019 feels abundantly full of possibilities.

1. What was your favorite photo you or someone else took of you? (this can even be a phone photo)

2. What was your favorite meal eaten last year and double life points if you can tell me what meal you’re most looking forward to in 2019!

3. What are you most looking forward to in 2019? This can be a life goal, trip, maybe a cherub is starting a sport.

4. Tell me something I need to experience, hands down, non-negotiable within the Twin Cities area.

5. Tell me a few secret Air B & B locations, something you maybe go to every year or have been waiting to go to. Cabin in the woods? Lakefront? Condo in downtown St. Paul. Spill the diets on all the coolest rental locations.

I’ll tell you a few of mine ::
1. I’m relearning piano. I’ve decided to commit 1 hour every day to relearn what came naturally years ago.

2. I want to be known for my bread. I do not know why, but I just do. Coming over for a party? I’ll bring the bread. Baby arrived and you're home from the hospital? I’ll bring the bread. Just call me “Erica, Mama of the Breads” :)
3. I currently swim about 1 mile every day. I want to up that to 3 miles.

4. Dry January. No wine until February. Let’s give this body a little time to reset for 2019.

5. I’m going to try with all my might, to blog twice a week. What do you want to know?

2019 friends, it’s here, let’s do everything in our power to make December 31st, 2019 a day to look back and say we totally kicked this years arce and shoot, we feel pretty good about it!

Minneapolis Family Photographer | Minneapolis Newborn Photographer | My thoughts on 2018 by Erica Loeks

Happy Last Day of 2018!!

I was thinking about this today as I set into motion a new vision and new goals. I quite literally closed a door on a chapter and walked away feeling refreshed, excited and the best…DETERMINED! The kind of determined I felt back when I was in Girl Scouts and it was cookie selling time and I’d see the prizes available and was determined to get one of those shiny awesome patches for my sash! Determined because I found something in myself this year that I haven’t seen in awhile. Something switched, like a lightswitch and that feeling couldn’t be ignored. Much like my entire career, I’ve had ups and downs, there were projects I maybe should have walked away from, projects I should have signed up for and a wonderful list of clients I seriously call friends and all in all, I am bound and determined to make this New Year of 2019 a year of focus.

I choose this photo to highlight today because it’s hard to even remember her, me on that day, carrying my angel Everett. I was months from my due date, but little did I know, I would become a Mother in just 5 weeks after this photo. A moment that secured my believe that Oprah said it best, becoming a Mother is the hardest job you will ever do. She was right, this has proven harder than anything I’ve ever done, but wow…when he looks at me and comes in for a hug, I well up with tears almost every single time because it’s magic. He is my magical compass for how I live now and, the bonus track of this little guy’s life, here I thought I was going to teach him all of these life lessons and such…yet, he teaches me more than I never knew possible.

With every client I’ve photographed over the years, this year it all connected and I became aware of the intense relationship Mother’s get to have with their cherubs. It’s a beautiful thing to know and be a part of, photographing for all of you and for that, I want to take a moment to say how THANKFUL I am for all of you.

Every family that asks me into their home, that meets me at the studio, that carves out time to be photographed, you all mean the world to me and I thank you for your business.

So here we go. We march into this new year with perspective, focus and determination to be lovely to each other, kind to everyone, loving to all and all with a gigantic dollop of grace. Thank you for being here with me on this photographic ride. I can’t wait to see you next year!

Love, Erica xoxo

Baby Buns Sessions :: Minneapolis Baby Photographer by Erica Loeks

07132018_Schwind_EricaLoeksPhoto0001.jpg

I'm so darn excited to finally announce something I've been wanting to do for a very long time! BABY BUNS SESSIONS! I'm pretty much obsessed with how these baby sessions are turning out and can't wait to have your baby's buns in the photo studio to document this entirely fleeting moment in their first year of being a precious baby.

Maybe you missed out on this type of session, maybe you are nearing your 6 month baby mark and want to take advantage of this Exclusive In-Studio session, I'm so excited to offer these and I've set aside the first of what will more than likely be an ongoing event because let's face it, babies have the cutest buns and it needs to be said, this is one of the sweetest moments!

DATE :: Saturday, August 18th

TIMES :: 9am - 3pm

INVESTMENT :: $75 includes session time and one 8x10 print, online gallery to view and order additional digital files, prints and or products

Pros and Cons to a Family Mini-Session :: Minneapolis Portrait & Lifestyle Photographer by Erica Loeks

It's that time of year, Summer is in full swing and you're wondering what lake to hit up this weekend! If you're like me, I want ALL the Summer has to offer ALL day EVERY day! As we approach Fall, the thoughts are creeping in that you need to get a Family photo session on the books or it'll be turkey season before you know it and you've missed those awesome Summer evenings for great photos.

Over the years I get asked to "Just take a few photos, nothing major." and to that, I've answered your prayers and created a limited amount of Mini-Family sessions for this year. They are 20 minutes and definitely different in timing than a regular session.

Why book a Mini-Session and what are the pros and cons?

PROS ::

:: It's in and out, 20 minutes to get those smiles, you're in the zone and ready to go!

:: You receive 15 digital files, which are ready to print and create with

:: You save a bit of money, sessions are $300

:: Perfect for the annual Holiday Card photo and a few extras to frame

CONS ::

:: 20 minutes is the length of your session. If you're wanting a bit more in terms of a lifestyle shoot, you'd be better to go with a regular family session , which is roughly 90 minutes.

:: Full Family sessions receive an online gallery of roughly 30-60 images to choose from

:: Full sessions start at $150 for the session fee and products are purchased a-la-carte from there.

Which is the right fit, Mini-Session or Full Family Session? To be honest, they are both AWESOME because it gets your family photographed once a year and you cannot put a price tag on documenting your family grow. It really does boil down to timing and ease.

Example of a Mini-Session done at an apple orchard. Pay off for those blonde bombshell smiles? Lightsaber sword fight with their Mighty Mama! :)

What to wear for your Summer Family Photo Session by Erica Loeks

I love Summer! It's my favorite season of the year and I look forward to the heat, the humidity, all the good things that come with warm weather. That being said, choosing attire for your Summer session can be stressful, mainly because we want to look great, but we also want comfort! Being comfortable, yet stylish as a family is what I want for you and let's face it, we only do this once a year, we want to make it worthwhile right? :)

So here are my Top 5 Tips for dressing for your Summer Family Session ::

1. Don't dress everyone in the same color.

Instead of going with one color, such as white, go with a color family instead. I'm fine with some patterns and solids and when you mix them together, you really end up with a whimsical and tied together story. And, it adds to your story.

2. Dress in comfortable clothing.

It's so important that everyone tries on their clothing and makes sure they are comfortable. I can attest, if I'm not at ease in what I'm wearing, the inevitable irritation and agitation comes through and with your photo session, you want to be able to cuddle up together, sit down, stand up, walk together, have fun! Try your pieces on at home and make sure you all feel good, kids included.

3. Dress for each person's personality.

Once you have a great color story for your entire family, go to accessorize and play with each person's personality. Dad loves hats, let's bring his favorite to wear in a few photos. Your little ones hate socks and like to go barefoot in their shoes, nix nay those socks and roll the pants up. Mom loves her signature gold hoop earrings. Add those final touches so each member of the family is present in their own way.

4. Bring a few options

It never fails, a grass stained knee, a spilled juice cup, a mini-nursing session has left a milk stain. We roll with the punches and having a back up always helps you stay relaxed and on top of whatever mishap will pop up. And yes, there will be mishaps and we embrace them!

5. Choose staples over too much fashion

I love fashion but I also like longevity. I consider my closet a safe place of options that really never go out of style, that way, I can wear what I own over the years without looking dated. We've all looked at photos from our youth and had a good chuckle at what our Mom made us wear or that we would DIE if we didn't get to wear and now we wonder why on earth shoulder pads were even a thing! :) Try to give you and your family a photo that will be filled with options that aren't super fashion forward, rather a staples.
